Lunar Afflicted


The Afflicted are not technically their own species by any standard definition, but rather individuals that have become cursed as the result of a Tvarian's (or another Afflicted's) bite.

New Afflicted typically experience an initial loss of control over this curse, finding it difficult to maintain their original form as opposed to a fully bestial one. These Beast forms may resemble common animals, are generally larger than their real-life counterparts. Afflicted retain some beast-like qualities (hearing, sense of smell, agility) in their natural form, but are ultimately controlled by the Moon, forcefully shifting when it is full.

Toward the end of an Afflicted's life, or if they have remained in their beast form for too long, the Afflicted can lose the ability to revert back to their original form, leading them to become what is known as "Forsaken Afflicted."

Notes

  • Only Changelings, Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Goblins, Humans, or Orcs may become Afflicted.
  • Afflicted may spread their curse by biting another individual while in their beast form during a full moon.
  • Afflicted lose the ability to channel mana.

    Lunar Afflicted take on animalistic traits, which can range from fangs, claws, or changes in the muscoskeletal structure. Some Afflicted may even sprout fur, feathers, or scales.

Corrupted


Most common among those who bathed within the Sun’s light, Corrupted individuals are those that have lost their way within the Frontier or Dark Reaches. They have become consumed with madness, darkness, hatred, villainy, or some type of visual demarcation of their refusal to cleanse themselves. Although any species is potentially corruptible, it is most common among elementals.

    Corrupted appearances vary greatly. Sometimes it can be as simple as discolored skin or as dramatic as magical boils.

Vampire (Standard)


Any bipedal, sentient creature can be cursed with vampirism, the only exception to being dragons. As a curse placed upon an individual by another vampire, the "Sire," removing vampirism requires a significant amount of power to remove. When a vampire is turned, their aging stops at the point of their embrace. Theoretically, vampires can live forever.

Vampires come in many different types and have species specific names:

  • Elder Sire - at least 100 years old and can turn others
  • Damphyr - a changed elf (of any subspecies) with vampirism
  • Fledgling - a newly turned vampire

Vampires must drink blood from sentient creatures to keep their bloodlust in check. If a vampire falls to their hunger, they go on a rampage that could lead to their untimely demise.
